The Best Herbs to Grow At Home

Lets be honest, dried herbs are great in jars when you are rushed but there is nothing better than freshly grown herbs at home.
Knowing what the best herbs to grow at home, can make all the difference in what you cook and also to the taste of your cooking!
The taste, the aroma and the bonus is that they don't cost that much to grow!

I really wish I had more time to have an overgrown herb garden. One that had every type of herb and it would just smell and look wonderful!

I think I have the next best thing.... a small (tiny) garden with herbs that are versatile and hardy...and that is ok, because in my garden, I have the best herbs, to grow and use in my home cooking.

So here is a quick look at a few that I use a lot for cooking, putting in salads, adding to roasts, sprinkling on tacos and and some recipe ideas and links.

Another bonus, is that they also look gorgeous as a garden plant too! 😃
So what are best herbs to grow at home?

Six of The Best Herbs To Grow At Home!

    Coriander

    Home Grown Corriander

In Australia we know this as Coriander but in other parts of the world as Cilantro, Chinese Parsley or Dhania.  It was native to southern Europe and from North Africa to southern west Asia.

It is a annual herb, that is soft and small and it can be grown in the garden and pots outside but also as an indoor plant.

Coriander goes perfectly with Thai Inspired Chicken Dippers and the best Homemade Guacamole...with a twist!

    Thyme

    Home Grown Thyme

Thyme is small perennial shrub with lots of branches, small leaves and light purple to pink flowers.
Thyme is a a herb that that goes really well with a variety of foods and is often used to flavour meats, soups and stews. Thyme is full-of-flavour but is not overpowering. It blends very well with other herbs and spices especially in this recipe for Sumac Spiced Wedges!

    Mint

    Home Grown Mint

Mint is perennial plant with very fragrant, toothed leaves. It has tiny purple, pink, and white flowers. It is a very easy plant to grow....sometimes too easy and it is best grown in a pot so it doesn't take over the garden. 😉
Mint has multiple uses. Its fresh green leaves add a tangy punch to fruit salads, ice cream, sherbet, and brewed hot tea. It is a low-calorie, flavourful addition to a simple glass of still or sparkling water.
I use Mint to add to my ice cubes and then once frozen, pop them into a glass of water and it adds a 'zing' to a refreshing drink!
    1. Chives

    Home Grown Chives
Chives are perennial plant that has beautiful purple flowers  and Chives are close relative to onions, garlics, leeks and scallions. Of these, chives have the most delicate flavour. (These too are best grown in a pot!)
Gluten Free Tabouleh is a great side dish at BBQ and to give the Tabouleh an extra zing, add in some chopped chives .
