"Each day matters"
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who said she felt like she was in a rut. A bit like groundhog day ...she went to work, did her chores and went to bed.
She said that she really didn't think that she was leading her life, but rather that life was leading her. She said she felt like she needed a reboot or a restart!
Of course we joked around about her having a 'mid-life crisis', and we wondered if her next step was buying a red sports car!!
It made me think....what is it that makes life great, wonderful, awesome ...(without it costing loads of money 😉 )
Sometimes you just need to stop and have a look around at what is happening in your life and reassess where you have been and where you are headed.
For some people that happens around the New Year. Some people decide to make big changes in the hope to drastically change their life and become happier. For some this works and for others it just fizzles out after a while.
Don't wait for a day or date to make changes. Simply tweak or make little changes throughout the year or whenever you need a lift or some inspiration.
The simple things that make the day go better, lift your mood or even gives you something to look forward to. Often it is just a matter of changing the way you think about things.
I love the idea of living an intentional life. Where I make the choices on how I live, how I interact and how I give back to the world.
It doesn't mean I have my whole life figured out but it does mean that I know what is important...to me.
Practicing mindfulness is the start of living an intentional life . Simply appreciating and noticing.
So living an intentional life means working out 'what is working'...and 'what's not' and doing this by making small....little...adjustments.
When you know you have made choices to make life a little more awesome....well it is much easier to follow through with them.
Of course, the best way to make tweaks, or changes to everyday living is by taking small steps.
So my friend and I sat down and wrote out a list of all the little things that you can do to make each day a little more wonderful...maybe you might find one or a few that will inspire you to make your day a little more awesome.

Appreciate what you have!
Give a long, sweet hug to someone you love (...or even your pet!)
Get enough sleep... (I know, obvious but essential)
Use your good things! (don't just save them for that one day of the year)
Go on, spoil yourself ....splurge and have that special morning tea!
Take the time to create a special atmosphere...flowers, candles, fairy lights (and not just at Christmas time).
Turn off the T.V and put on some music and dance ...just go for it!
Write to someone to say thanks and express gratitude....no cheating by sending a text message but an actual handwritten note!
Plan to watch a sunrise and a sunset (and it doesn't have to be on the same day!)
Look after yourself!
Have a true day of rest!
Listen to your favourite song (...on repeat even...sorry to the neighbours 😉)
Do the hard jobs first .... (that way you will stop dreading them)
Go for an after-dinner walk.
Create a quiet, un-rushed morning ...or evening.
Sit by the ocean (or in nature) and just be!
Create a few morning or evening rituals that you look forward to.
Do more of what you love ... cooking, dancing, exercising, hiking...
Bring out your inner child!
Do something from your childhood ... fly a kite, go bowling, play marbles, go crabbing, step in the those puddles!
Just like children... remain curious!
Have little expectations. "Expect nothing, appreciate everything!"
Be silly!! ...and have fun in the moment.
Don't take yourself so seriously.
Pay attention to the good, happy and exciting moments.
Make the time to be creative ....writing, cooking, music, photography...
Let your mind wonder .... day dream!
There is no wrong way when being creative.
Read a book that you wouldn't normally read.
Be thrifty and recycle...think of other ways to use things.
Get dirty and add a little burst of colour to your garden.
Get out of your comfort zone!
Learn something new ... a new skill, a new word, a new challenge.... and then do it again!
Simply do something kind for someone else.
Drive a different route to work.
Step out of the rut - try a different hairstyle, mix up clothing combinations, add a flair to your outfit with colourful jewellery.
Make the time and the place to have a good belly laugh! ... go to a comedy festival, watch that show that always make you laugh, hang out with people who like to laugh!
Try a new recipe!... like Fresh Fig and Pecan Loaf, Thai Sticky Rice with Mango or Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars.
So my friend and I are on a mission, to check off the list and find the little ways to make everyday more awesome and finding the beauty that is all around us!
