A delicious and easy recipe for Asian Chicken Drumsticks with Plum Sauce! (GF)
A really inexpensive way to feedΒ a large family (or even a small one) is using chicken drumsticks.... but sometimes they can be a little boring. To jazz them up a bit and please the children as well as the adults, transformΒ them into a sweet, crispy, sticky deliciousness!
By marinading the chicken drumsticks for an hour, with an easy marinade and then coating them with a delicious home-made Asian Plum Sauce, takes them from boring drumsticks to spectacular! π
The Asian Plum Sauce really makes all the difference to the chicken drumsticks. Using a kitchen brush, paste over the Asian Plum Sauce while the chicken is hot and it will give the chicken a crispy, sticky, sweet finish. Delicious!!Β
How to make Asian Chicken Drumsticks with Plum Sauce! (GF)
- To marinade the chicken - mix together the lemon juice, brown sugar and salt and lay the drumsticks in a shallow pan. Then pour the marinade over the drumsticks and cover with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for 1 hour.
- Pre-heat the oven to a moderate temperature 180ΒΊC or 350ΒΊF.
- AfterΒ marinading the chicken drumsticks, place oil in a saucepan and brown the marinated drumsticks until they are golden.
- Then lay them on an oven tray and bake in the oven until they are crispy and cooked through.
- When serving, coat the chicken with the Asian PlumΒ Sauce (see below), sprinkle withΒ grated lemon zest and serve with rice and/or a salad. We love to add fresh coriander/cilantro over the top of the chicken.
The best part is that you can dip the chicken drumsticks into the plum sauce for that extra sweetness and then top with grated lemon zest and fresh coriander!

- Marinade for Chicken Drumsticks
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- plus
- 8 chicken drumsticks
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Asian Plum Sauce
- 3 tablespoons of plum jam
- the juice of 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon of lemon zest
- 1 teaspoon of minced ginger
- 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- Mix together with a whisk
