All the tips to making a chunky Easy Gluten Free Fried Rice with all the delicious flavours and taste, at home! No need for take outΒ anymore!
Often 'Fried Rice' is thought of as a last minute takeaway meal but this Easy Gluten Free Fried Rice is such a great, delicious and easy everyday meal!
It is perfect as a side dish but in my home we love to eat it just as it is. Nothing else to overshadow it.
We love it with chunky vegetables - ones you can see andΒ gives the friedΒ rice a bit of crunch!
There are a few tip to making Fried Rice at home...the easy way and making it gluten free too!
Tip 1 - Using Cold Cooked Rice
Using cold, cooked rice makes all the difference to the easy gluten free fried rice!
I use Basmati rice and cook it in the rice cooker with gluten free chicken stock. This gives the rice a subtle flavour rather than rice that is a little bland.
Then I spread it on a oven tray lined with baking paper with a fork and pop it in the fridge to cool and dry out. This stops the fried rice from being sticky and clumped together.
I usually leave mine in the fridge for a couple of hours or even better overnight!. It works really well with leftover rice from the day before.
Tip 2 - Use Sesame Oil and Tamari
Using Sesame Oil and TamariΒ (click here for more information and recipes with Tamari) gives the fried rice a deeper flavour and colour without having to add a lot of soy sauce.
*Note - If this is the first time using sesame oil, perhaps start with Β½ teaspoon as it has a strong flavour and then build it up to your liking. The sesame oil is for flavouring not as the cooking oil ...use olive oil for that.

Tip 3 - You can add in egg, chicken, chilli or whatever to add to your liking
Yes, the best part to this Easy Gluten Free Fried Rice is that you can add whatever ingredients you wish ....chicken, chilli, prawns and egg omelet.
In my home we love it just with lots of different types of chunky vegetables and some bacon or ham...we especially love adding water chestnuts for the crunch and to make it a little more authentic. (...well it feels that way anyway π )
Tip 4 - You can use frozen vegetables
This is even better for when you are rushed for time.
Frozen vegetables work just as well in this fried rice recipe and especially if you have the rice from the night before....much quicker!
How to make Easy Gluten Free Fried Rice
- Heat one tablespoon ofΒ olive oil in a largeΒ wok or frypanΒ over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic, onion and bacon and cook for a minute
- Add in the capsicum,Β carrots andΒ cook for two minutes. (or whatever vegetables you prefer)
