I was shopping the other day and walked past a frame shop that had a display of abstract art out the front. I stopped, looked and thought, 'WOW, that looks awesome'!
I then looked at the price tag and was surprised at how much they were selling for...a lot!
A few days later, my mind was wondering about that 'awesome art' and I really wanted to try and recreate it myself....cheaply!
In my garage I have big box of old frames, just waiting for a time like this. I selected 3 and gave them a new look with some silver spray paint which I already had left over from the recycled craft from candle holders to displaying nail polish.Β
I gathered what I needed, put on some music and experimented with different strokes, patterns and spots. The original awesome art was all black and white and I think that's what caught my eye that day in the shops.
Β You could use different colours but I liked the look of the dramatic black and white.
I used acrylic black paint mixed with a little bit of water, so you could see the brush marks and it was a bit 'flicky'.
Β I used two different brushes, a medium size and fine one for the spots.
I did add a bit more water to make the spots as then they were like droplets on the page.
I did try a few times to find just the right two that went together. While they were drying, I hovered the frame just over the top of each one to see what it looked like in the frame.
.....and TA DAAAA!
My very own Awesome Art....done cheaply
Β (well it actually costs me nothing, which is even better)
I hung them, admired them and
then decided that they were just as good as the expensive ones.
Awesome Abstract Art!
